On Our Way to the National Independent Living Conference - Growing Pains
Bill and Nancy are headed to Nashville to exhibit and present at the Growing Pains Conference sponsored by Daniel Memorial Institute and NILA (National Independent Living Association). Despite the “recession” we understand that well over 400 participants are expected from around the country! The conference is full of workshops for both youths and adults. If you are coming to the conference, be sure to stop by our ILR exhibit. See you next week!
Volunteer Advocate Academy Seeks Research Participants
If you are a GAL or CASA staff or volunteer with one year or less experience… please contact (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). We are ready to enter the final phase of our research to evaluate the effectiveness of a NEW, multi-media on-line curriculum for volunteer advocates. The curriculum is focused on working with adolescents and those in transition. Research participants will be required to complete the curriculum over a six week period this fall. The entire curriculum takes approximately 3.5 hours. All participants will receive a training certificate and $100 for their time. Either call 800-820-0001 or email with questions or complete the Research Participant Application to sign up.

Some have even said they would do it without the $100 research stipend! Very cool. For me, I’m encouraged by the desire for our advocates to learn how to work with teens and help them self-advocate. They are really ready for this! So many state and program directors have signed up to enroll their new volunteers. It feels great to know we…
