College Admissions
Diversity at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill - University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s site to try to enhance the diversity of admissions candidates! Foster youth please do visit this site and consider UNC-CH.

On Your Way - A FREE website for young people to help put together all the pieces of their life to continue their education and get on their way. Youth will create an on-line profile to maintain records of their education, testing, health, etc. The site is secure and meets HIPPA guidelines. Youth can also search for colleges using specific demographics and create a resume too.


Caregiver, Mentor, Social Worker and other Professional Resources
Fostering Perspectives - Fostering Perspectives exists to promote the professional development of North Carolina’s child welfare workers and foster parents and to provide a forum where the people involved in the child welfare system can exchange ideas about foster care in North Carolina.

Volunteer Advocate Academy - An interactive on-line training program for anyone working with teens, especially court appointed advocates. The program helps users understand court involved youths, how crisis impacts adolescent development, how to establish a relationship by understanding the adolescent world, and other specific transitional issues such as housing, life skill, education, health, and employment.

On Their Way - A DVD curriculum for caregivers on how to support transitional teens in their home so youths are prepared to transition to adulthood while continueing their education.

NILA - National Independent Living Association - NILA is a national network of public and private organizations, individuals, youth and foster parents representing all 50 states. It is committed to the enhancement of independent living and transitional living services for older at-risk youth and their families. You can find much information about this organization on their site.


Juvenile Justice
Corrections Connection - A window to current juvenile corrections articles and resources. This site will lead into many other juvenile sites, articles, and resources.

University of Cincinnati - Criminal Justice - Many articles on criminal justice and corrections programs.

Casey Family Services - This site offers professionals, youths, and parents information on adoption and foster care. Conferences dates, stories, and advice among many things offered.

The College Foundation of North Carolina - This site is loaded with information and resources to help you and your family make smart decisions as you plan for college and a career, compare over 100 North Carolina colleges and link easily to their Web sites, simplify the college application process by applying online, and find the best way to pay for college with scholarships, grants, loans, and savings programs.

Convenant House - The largest privately funded childcare agency. Offers information on childcare issues and on the Convenant House.

Do Something - A cutting edge site with the latest stories on how celebrities and others are getting involved with their communities. Good site to find out how you can become involved and what you can do.

Florence Crittenton Center - A non-profit 501C(3) organization that has served youths and their families for more than a century. FC provides services to help teens overcome issues of abuse, neglect, teen pregnancy or mental health problems.

FosterClub - A site where foster kids can go to find stories, information and other things. It was created not only to be an informational site for foster kids, but a fun site.

Non-Traditional Foster Care - Site dedicated to untraditional foster care. Offers links to everything from drug abuse to child abuse. Informative site. A little old, but worth a look.

Kids@Home - This site is an informational site on foster care and (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). It is very informational, with easy ways for one to find out how to get involved. Kids@home is a group which helps foster children make the transition from a foster home to their adult life.

National Center for Youth Law: My Rights - A site explaining the legal rights of foster children and other legal aspects of the foster care.

SaySo‘s (Strong Able Youth Speaking Out - SaySo is a statewide association of youth aged 14 to 24 who are or have been in the out-of-home care system that is based in North Carolina. This includes all types of substitute care, including foster care, group homes, and mental health placements.

TeenGrowth - Teens can visit this site for health information. Offers wide range of information, much which is provided by certified healthcare professionals. Informative site on which a teen can get information for his or her health needs.

Youth Advocacy Center - This organization’s mission is to teach young people in foster care to advocate for themselves and take control of their lives. It is a site where a youth can find out more about the organization and how to get in contact with someone from the center.

Youth Communication - The only national magazine written by and for teens in foster care.

A website for youth to go to for resources regarding: “Fitness, Acne, Alcohol, and More:  Teen Health Issues”.  A high school teen had recommended this site.
