Part of the Foster Parent College Series:

“Working with Schools” breaks down critical responsibilities each contributing player has in the role of educating foster children including parents, teachers, administrators, counselors, and even therapists. Foster parents share experiences dealing with school systems and share tips toward developing a positive relationship with schools in this module developed by noted therapist and educator Charley Joyce, LICSW.

In “Working with Schools” a panel of foster parents are joined by Karen Jorgenson, Executive Director of the National Foster Parent Association, and Ginger Gorham, special educator with 30 years experience in the public schools. Together they discuss the varied challenges foster parents face as they work with their child’s school. Topics covered include roles and responsibilities, entering a new school, working with the school staff, special education, and parent advocacy. Foster parents will find the many strategies and tips helpful regardless of their child’s placement in the school system.

Running time is 32 minutes and the curriculum includes: 1 Interactive DVD, Viewer’s Guide, reproducible handouts and questionnaire.

This DVD is sold separately or in the Foster Parent College (26) DVD Series Package
