Matt Schnars, BS

Areas of expertise: Transitional Housing and Gang Prevention

Matt has over 14 years experience in direct services, administration, grant writing, and program management for the youth services field. A graduate of Slippery Rock University, Matt has become an experienced presenter and trainer at numerous local, regional, and national youth conferences. In addition to creating his own curriculum on such topics as Gang Outreach and Housing, Matt is a certified trainer for the University of Oklahoma National Resource Center for youth Services in Managing Aggressive Behavior (MAB).

Matt currently is the Program Director for the Preparation for Independent Living Program at Haven House Services in Raleigh, NC. In this position, he oversees the only center-based Street Outreach Program in the NC region, provides administration and management of Federal FYSB-RHY programs, has managed the WIA and out-of-school youth programs, and supervises the organization’s Housing and Urban development (HUD) SHP programs.

Matt also serves on the steering committee for Wake County Gang Prevention Partnership; is Treasurer of the Wake County Continuum of Care Board of Directors; and is Region IV Board of Directors Representative for the National Independent Living Association (NILA). In 2003, Matt received the Award for Excellence in Direct Services from the Children and Families Services Association-NC.
Matt’s work has been featured in 2006 research report from Tufts University “Where to now?” report on innovative housing programs for homeless young adults leaving Transitional Living Programs and is known locally for his work with Second Round Gang Prevention Programs and support of Campaign for Change
